What Can I Do?

More often than not I find myself wondering, “What can I do to help?” Sure, this blog brings tons of awareness to Autism as a whole. However, there must be something else that I can do to contribute towards the amount of help that this particular community receives.

https://www.autismspeaks.org is one of many websites which provides its visitors with a host of resources to answer any wandering minds such as mine. Please take as much time as you can to explore the site and further educate yourself. I have found the “Get Help” tab to be one of the most insightful in regards to gaining ways to provide assistance!

Another way you can help is by sharing the link to this blog! I also have an Instagram (@spectrumoflight21) and Twitter (@onthespectrum21) account. Please do me a favor and like, follow and share my posts. Tell a friend to tell a friend to tell a friend!

Also, be a friend, advocate and/or listening ear to those impacted by Autism spectrum disorder; these individuals can be directly affected and have Autism or friends and loved ones!

For those of you who are more hands-one you can enter a career field providing services to Autistic children and their parents! A friend of mine takes her child to a center to receive applied behavior analysis therapy; she constantly tells me that the place is way too understaffed! If you have an interest in working with children-especially those with special needs, then I highly suggest that you look into becoming a registered behavior technician, board certified behavior analyst, speech pathologist, etc.. The job availability is there and there can never be too many of those serving this community!

I mentioned to this same friend the type of work that my daughter does- helping special needs children develop their sport and social skills- and she was so excited to learn more about this specific company. Unfortunately, the company is based out-of-state and she has yet to find anything remotely like it. There is this stigma centered around the idea that special needs children lack the mental and/or physical capacity to get into sports and other physical activities. We must rid society of this thought process by pushing for progress and being inclusive in our daily activities.

"What can I do to help?" you ask...PUSH FOR PROGRESS- in all aspects and by any means necessary!

I hope this post shed a spectrum of life into your life :). Thanks for reading and stay tuned for my next one!
