Spectrum of Light: an ode to the parents of children with Autism
This is a spectrum of light
Nothing short of peace and light is to be shed in this shared spaced.
What started off as an assignment has transformed into something that I am truly passionate about. I have always been advocate for children- especially those with special needs!
Why an ode to the parents of children with Autism? An even better question is “why not?” There is so much going on in today’s world. I am not sure about you, but anytime I hear the word Autism I instantly think of children. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I am sure that I am not alone in my thought. But do you think of the parents? Do you think of the endless hours spent taking their child to and from the different appointments? Do you think of the costs of these necessary programs? Or do you think of the neurotypical child that they are raising in addition to the one with Autism? If you answered “no” to any of those questions, then please don’t be alarmed. Become aware, become alert and become an ally! We must let these parents know that they are not alone and have the support of the world to the best of our ability.

Why an ode to the parents of children with Autism? Because if I don’t do it, then who will? Why rely on the next when I am the best? No one can show my support for this community better than I. Neither of my children have Autism, but both of them did require specific medical attention at birth and throughout their childhood. Thankfully, I was gifted a great medical team and had plenty of support from family. However, I do look back and wish that there was more support on a societal level. I could not simply get on the internet and find a blog in support of parents experiencing what I was going through. Times were different and our access to resources has changed tremendously, but that does not take away from from the lack at the time. I am here to share as many resources as possible and let others know that they are not alone.
Thank you for accompanying me on this beautiful journey of blogging and spreading awareness. It has been such a beautiful experience and I appreciate each and every single of one of you for enhancing it by simply viewing, liking, commenting and sharing! May this overall experience being you peace and shed a spectrum of light into your life.
